Anderson retail: downtown
In 2018, the City of Anderson launched a marketing campaign called "Shock This Block" which called on city officials and 1,000 Anderson residents to collaborate on the development of a new downtown master plan. The plan's overall vision is to encourage visitors to the area with a greater number and variety of amenities, including developing a vibrant arts community. Another key objective is to improve the residential experience with greater connectivity and a greater sense community.
A significant portion of the plan includes improving the aesthetic of the downtown area with new awnings and paint for storefronts, updated street and building lighting, and streetscaping improvements. Other suggestions included renovating existing historical structures in order to house new developments such as a children's museum, music and performance venues, and an artist collective.
