The Prisma Health Swamp Rabbit Trail is a nearly 23-mile multi-use path that links the cities of Travelers Rest and Greenville in upstate South Carolina via the former Carolina, Knoxville and Western Railway railroad corridor. Following the Reedy River, the trail begins at Tate Road south of White Horse Road/CR 59 and continues through downtown Greenville, ending at Lake Conestee Nature Park. This paved path varies from 8 to 12 feet wide making it ideal for bicycles, skaters and walkers. There is also an additional rubberized surface for runners. Since the development of the trail in 2009, existing businesses along the path have experienced a significant increase in sales and exposure.
Travelers Rest, SC is one of the incredible examples of the positive economic impact a greenway can have on commercial real estate. According to a 2016 study by Furman University's Health Sciences department, more than a half million people visited the trail from July 2012 to June 2013, and now sees over 250,000 visitors annually. Approximately one quarter of that number have been tourists to the area.
The Swamp Rabbit Trail is a 22-mile multi-use (walking and bicycling) greenway that traverses along the Reedy River, an old railroad corridor and City parks to connect Travelers Rest with the City of Greenville, South Carolina.
